The
Bronx
Whitestone
Bridge
is a heavily traveled, 7,100-foot-long, suspended span bridge, connecting
Bronx and
Queens
. Existing construction varies, and consists of a 2,300 feet main span,
555 feet side spans and approach spans on both sides.

Scope of work
included replacement of entire bridge deck in suspended spans at
Whitestone
Bridge
under project BW-82. The scope of work also included design of
travelers for under-deck access for maintenance and inspection purposes.
The replacement deck was designed to reduce the load on suspended cables
thereby improving their factor of safety. The design also included
removal and replacement of roadway deck, steel barriers, electrical
facilities, light poles and decorative lighting. Extensive seismic
analysis was part of the project. Construction schedule and cost
estimates were prepared along with extensive cost and schedule analysis.
Elaborate maintenance and protection of traffic analysis and plans were
also part of the design package.
Project Cost: $130M.
